Certainly, milspec influenced production will demand reliability as a priority. I don’t think shoot-ability falls far behind in todays CNC production process.
I remember running a compact factory setup in winter and noticing the harsher recoil impulse, yet it never hiccupped once, making me appreciate why manufacturers still lean reliability over smoothness.
A lot of factory short barrel setups are intentionally over-gassed because manufacturers prefer to guarantee cycling rather than tuning for better shootability. An adjustable gas block is really the answer here.
