Estate sale experience

There was a man at an estate sale who sold me more than just a knife. He was in his eighties and the knife had belonged to his father before him. He told me stories about how it had been carried and used over decades. Eventually, he sold it to me for less than it was worth and only asked that I keep using it instead of locking it away somewhere. I still carry it and think about that conversation often. Anybody else own a tool with a story attached to it?

^^^
My Dad grew up in the Depression era, and this rifle was what put meat on the table for Him.
Dad worked hard to support our family, and could never afford one of these when I was young.

Down the road He came across a Rossi .22 pump that was very similar to this Ole '62' so He bought it.
I have GOOD Memories of He and I shooting at cans and whatever at the dump with this old Rossi, and it now lives in my safe, right next to my Marlin Golden 39A that I bought with paper route $$===They will be passed down through my Family...Bill.

That’s a great piece of family history, those memories matter even more than the rifles themselves.

Those are the best tools, every mark on them carries a bit of the history and the person before you.

My GGrandfather was a carpenter. When my Grandfather died, his offspring were throwing away GGrandfathers hand tools. “Junk”. Young lad as I were, I squirreled them away and kept them out of sight until I moved out. Over the years I used them a number of times on jobs where I needed quiet tools. I still have them. They will move on to my kids.

My granddad’s old stockman knife is something I specifically asked for when we cleaned out his place. Everyone already knew it was mine before I even said a word.
