The weight difference between my old rifle and my new one changed everything

My old setup was about nine pounds with optics and the new one is closer to six. Over the course of a long day in the mountains, that difference is not theoretical. You feel it in every step, especially on the way down.

Folks often laugh about shaving off a few pounds until they spend eight hours trekking across a hillside with a heavy rifle digging right into their shoulder. My Tikka feels almost like a toy compared to that old Remington 700 setup I used to have, and honestly I notice the difference on every single climb now.

A few pounds feels insignificant until gravity decides you’re carrying them uphill all day long.
