For many years I have had a Jones for a rifle in 7mm-08. I definitely don't need another rifle for deer hunting. But, what does need have to do anything.

Anyway, I'm looking for others who have the 7mm-08. What ammo do you prefer? Bullet weight? I will eventually be hand loading for the rifle. If you reload what is your preferred powder(s)? I'm just trying to connect with others who shoot this caliber.

The 7mm mag began getting painful to shoot so we parted ways and I moved down to the 7mm-08. I had a lot of 154 gr Hornady Polymer Tips left and just kept on using those. I used IMR 4064, because I had it on hand. It worked really well, but you can get more speed out of other powders.

I’ve been contemplating a 7mm-30. Lol

I've looked at reloading data for 7mm-08. I already have several compatible powders on hand. I figured I would just start with those and see what works. I hate to add another powder for a specific cartridge. I've done that and ended up with an orphaned tub of powder because it didn't meet expectations. If I can get good results with something I already have, mores the better.

There have been a few variations, but the 7-30 Waters would be the better choice. Winchester made a few levers in it. You can find commercial runs of ammo. It would involve a rebarrel, or maybe a liner.

.307 to 7mm would also be a neat conversion in a lever rifle. I think it would take a bit more effort.

The lever rifle conversions need for flat nose bullets really limit your bullet choices though. It’s still a flatter shooter than the original .30 cal bullet.

I’ve been chewing on the idea for a few years.
