The Hi-Point HP-15?

Hello,

I'm not a huge fan of the AR-15, preferring instead wood and steel to aluminum and fiberglass.

However, it strikes me as prudent to have one around, and it would fill a niche that isn't currently occupied in my modest collection, that of a high-speed .22 caliber. I was considering an AK in 5.45x39 since I handload and my preference for wood would be met, but it would probably be better to have something that takes widely available commercial ammo.

This evening I was surfing the web and found that Hi-Point of all manufacturers makes an AR called the HP-15 ( https://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/hi-point-hp15/556-rifle/556-16in-blk/ ) 🤔 The receiver is metal and everything seems to be milspec or better. It only costs $500.

I'm wondering if any of you have experience with these. There are limited written reviews with those I've found being mostly advertisements-posing-as-articles in online magazines. I'll be searching YouTube tomorrow, but I have the same reservations about those videos as I do about magazine articles.

So... I had a Hi-Point 995 carbine once. It was butt ugly and felt cheaply made, but it worked and was still working when I sold it. Prior to that I had a Stallard Arms pistol, which was a predecessor to the Hi-Point line. Big and chunky it was, but it always worked. Those two guns are why I'm even looking at a Hi-Point, but the AR platform is also a bit more complex than straight blowback, so I'm looking for real-world experience prior to pulling the trigger on one of these.

Thanks!

Since the HP-15 is relatively new, there aren't many user experiences available. Hi-Point has a good track record with their other firearms though. I haven't personally tried one yet.

If anyone here have insights, please feel free to share!

We share the same sentiment on guns. Blue and wood over more “synthetic” options. Though I do appreciate the purpose of black guns and keep a few around in case of need.

To me, all the AR platforms look and perform the same once you get the parts you want on them. Out of the box is mostly a reflection of the money you spend. I’m sure some are machined more precisely for those that want a competition rifle, but that’s not really what they were originally designed for.

I've handled some Hi Point gear that worked perfectly fine but it never quite felt, well, refined. For an AR, though, I'd probably lean towards something a bit more tried and true, just for that extra peace of mind.

Josh, that really looks like a GREAT start into the AR world..
With the 1:8" barrel twist it will run most all weight projectiles too.
Great to see the M Lock handguard for most all accessories, vs the Key Mod systems.
Most all the rest looks to be Mil-spec, witch means that all parts are available for replacement if wanted..
All in all looks like a GREAT Base AR-15...Bill.

HA HA...Just noticed that the OP has not been here for a Month??
Oh well, GREAT Topic anyway.....
