Over the years I have been in Clubs and whatnot chasing the Ole Mister LargeMouth,, but for the last 5-6 years, just enjoy the retention ponds the most.
I have what I call my "Paper Route" of ponds that I hit at different times just for catch and release.
GREAT times for the most part, and I have:
NO Boat payments/Insurance
NO Pressure to get the largest weigh-in
NO Have to fish times/lakes/ponds

AND==I have JUST AS MUCH FUN!! HA.HA...Bill.

Forget the weigh-ins, the boat drama, and the tight schedules. Sometimes, what we really crave is that freedom that reminds us why we fell in love with fishing in the first place. Just getting out there and casting a line in those little-known spots. There's something electrifying about catching and releasing fish in places most folks overlook, sometimes it's even more rewarding than any tournament.

Those retention ponds can actually be great spots for bass fishing. Most people pass them by, so the fish end up chilling without much pressure. When you keep hitting the same spots, you really start to get a feel for the water. You begin to pick up on seasonal patterns, discover where the bass like to nest, and even figure out their favorite hangouts depending on the weather
