The gun advice you wish you'd gotten as a beginner

I wasted so much money on budget guns and accessories that broke or didn't perform. If I'd just saved up and bought quality from the start, I'd have more money now and better gear..

As far as firearms, I own no Taurus, Rossi, or other of these priced handguns. I own very few Savage, Springfield, or other less than top name long guns..

I know, I know, most of them work fine for some people, just not for me..Bill.

Nothing wrong with standards. Some folks collect guns, others collect peace of mind and that usually costs a little extra.

There are some makes that i won't buy but.... I have 2 RIA 1911s (one .45 and one 10mm) and a Tisas 1911 that run like a fine tuned sewing machine. I had a Rossi 605 in .357 that would just as good as my S&W AirWeight or my Ruger SP101. I bought a pony 1911 once and it was junk, couldn't get it to run a full mag no matter what I tried.

If I had money to throw around I might by an Ed Brown or a Nighthawk but I don't so I buy what runs and shoots to my standards and that I can afford.

Find some training.

It will save you money in the long run, so the sooner you do it the better.

It’s true you don’t know what you don’t know. Or maybe better put, you don’t see what you’re doing wrong. I didn’t take my first class until I had been a gunowner for over 20 years and had even won a few local matches of different types, but I learned enough in the first hour to make it worth my time and money.

Training is easy to get now. It isn’t like the old days where you only had one or maybe two places to find training, and they required a loan and a long vacation to get.

I know, most of us are guys, so we are born knowing how to drive a car, grill a steak, make love to a woman, or shoot guns without instruction. Any advice in these matters is an insult, and seeking instruction is unthinkable.
It’s possible we are wrong regarding that in at least one of those categories.

That’s the right philosophy, price doesn’t guarantee reliability. If it runs, shoots well and fits your budget, that’s a win

Just last night I was lamenting to my wife over dinner how I wish I had the Bren Ten I traded away for ~$650.
Or the Python that took forever to get $350 for.
Or the Browning B-92 lever action I doubt I got $275 out of.
Granted, those were all traded or sold quite a while ago and I at least got my money back on all but maybe the Browning.

But that Bren Ten, boy that really hurts when I see what they bring now.

I have a "Few" S&W 'K' Frames in my safe that 15-20 years ago I paid $125.00-150.00 for.
They sure as heck have beat my 401K, for increase in value..?? HA HA..Bill.

And revolvers passed up during the period of roughly 1995-2010 would make a lengthy tale of woe for many of us, huh?

I will have to "Make Amends" to this statement...
I DO have a Taurus=A 1911 Commander size .45acp.=It ONLY has Taurus frame+slide-All else is Wilson Combat/Kart parts.
I DO have a Rossi .22LR. pump action carbine that was my Dad's..He bought it new because it was the "Same" as the Winchester Gallery Special that He had as a young man.
As the years go by, so does my MEMORY....HA.HA...Bill.
