Summer always feels a bit slow when it comes to hunting, but it’s actually the perfect time to get ready. I've been going through my gear and scouting some new areas, but sometimes I slack off, so I'm curious what everyone else does to stay on track for the upcoming season.

I usually check my trail cameras every couple of weeks. It's always exciting to see what bucks made it through the winter and how much they've grown over the summer. I also set aside at least one day for a thorough gear maintenance session. There's nothing worse than realizing your gear is shot right before opening day. I also try to use the heat as my motivation. A few hours of scouting early in the morning beats just sitting around, and this time of year is perfect for picking up on deer movement toward water sources.
