Lost Creek Conservation Club, just east of Terre Haute.
$150

Featuring new Revere’s Riders volunteer: ME!

Shotgun classes are a bit scarce compared to pistol and carbine, so don’t miss this chance. I just heard there were only four slots left.

It’s only one day, so it’s easier to schedule than a lot of classes. They still manage to fill the day with info, so it’s a pretty good deal for $150.

Overview: Attendees will experience shooting at various distances and learn how to employ the shotgun in a defensive role. This clinic will focus on short range close quarter engagement. Topics covered include:

  • Range rules and safety
  • Shotgun action types
  • Sling carry methods
  • Ammo carry methods
  • Ammo selection
  • Loading methods
  • Ready positions
  • Shooting from the shoulder
  • Shooting from retention
  • Shotgun pattern
  • Shooting on the move
  • Shotgun and kit setup
  • Develop principles for engaging multiple targets with speed and accuracy
  • Effectively apply decision making skills to transition from near to far targets
  • Adapt principles for engaging multiple targets from behind cover at various distances
  • Engaging at maximum effective range

And about this:

“Estimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds of birdshot, 20 rounds of slug, and 20 rounds of #00 buckshot.”

If the ammo amount and cost is scaring you away, I can tell you those numbers are “healthy” estimates.
Nobody wants to run out, but you can get by with less. I would say the actual expenditure will be a lot closer to half those numbers. To some degree you are in control of this, because there will be lots of exercises and drills with variable shot counts where you choose how many (i.e. “On the command, fire two to five rounds!”).

So if money is tight and you can only gather one 100-rd pack of birdshot at Walmart plus whatever loose rounds you already have handy, plus a box each of slug and buck, you should be good.

Besides, if you’re a couple handfuls short, people will hand you some before you know it.

Those ammo estimates are usually worst case. Most folks end up shooting less and sharing if someone runs short anyway..

Only one or maybe two seats left as of yesterday.

To be honest, with it being now only six days away, I’m surprised there are any slots left. I’m not trying to be hyperbolic. Shotgun classes are a bit scarce, so have been filling quickly the last couple of years. Pre-Covid, training sources often had trouble getting enough students to hold them, but they’ve been real popular since. I’m not sure why.

And yet, I STILL bring well over the estimated amount to any class! Anyone who has ever ran close probably does also!

Forecast temp Saturday is 76 degrees.
If “76” isn’t a big hint to attend a firearms class, I don’t know what is.
