I'm hunting this season and I’m kinda torn between going with a .308 or a .450 Bushmaster. Have any of you had a chance to try either one out, especially in those thick woods or out in open fields? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

.308 is definitely the better choice for me. It can tackle everything from short-range shots at 50yds to stretching out to 500yds with ease. The ammo is also usually a lot cheaper for practice, which is a huge bonus. It's very versatile and makes shooting a lot more fun.

The .450 Bushmaster definitely has its spot in the hunting world, and I wouldn't call it a bad pick. It's just a little more niche. If you're out in the thick woods and your shots are usually under 100 yards, this round hits like a freight train. It knocks down deer right where they stand. I remember borrowing my buddy’s .450 Bushmaster AR for a hunt a couple of years ago. In that heavy timber, it was unbelievably powerful up close, the deer I shot didn't even take a single step before going down. It was pretty astounding to say the least.

I think if you’re spending most of your time hunting in thick forests with shorter shooting distances, the .450 will definitely get the job done. That said, the .308 is generally more versatile.

I agree with the .308 vibe. Definitely more versatile. The recoil difference between the two isn't that significant. Ammo for the .308 is almost always available anywhere you look.
