I've been spending more time on the range and noticed that some drills really make a difference. One drill, in particular, helped me improve both my accuracy under pressure and my reaction time. It showed me how certain practice routines prepare you for real-life situations better than others. For those who train often, which defensive shooting drill has been the most helpful for you?

There is some debate out there about practicing one chosen drill vs doing as many different ones as you can. I’m in the varying drills camp, but maybe it’s because I get bored :)

There are several sources of drills out there, and I print off a lot of them. A great source, and not just for drills, is to subscribe to the Rangemaster monthly newsletter. There is a “drill of the month” that’s always really good and often based on something that happened.

Here is the index of newsletters over the years. Warning: Once you start reading them, you might lose track of time. This

Thanks for sharing, I'll check out the Rangemaster newsletters. I agree, mixing drills keeps things sharp and realistic. Do you have a personal favorite drill from their series?

One drill that really changed things up for me is the "3x2 Drill." It’s pretty straightforward, you pick 3 targets and shoot 2 rds at each, as fast and accurately as you can. What’s great about it is that it pushes you to switch gears quickly, handle the recoil like a pro, and keep your focus when the pressure’s on. I like to throw in different distances and mix in some reloads to keep it realistic, kind of like dealing with the chaos you might actually face out there.
