Carbine or mid-lengths

For those putting together 16" ARs, is mid-length the go-to option or are carbine systems still contenders?

I’ve always felt as far as you can get the gas port from the chamber the better.

I’d still rather have the traditional port location. I feel like the closer ports slam the action harder.

Mid-length setups just feel smoother to me every time I shoot them side by side. Carbines still work fine but once you notice the difference, it’s hard to go back.

 I still believe there's a spot for both but for me, a mid-length option just feels a lot smoother. It's less jarring and it makes it easier to keep things aligned between shots.
