Been hunting whitetails for over 2 decades, and my reliable Remington 700 in .30-06 has never let me down. I know the woods inside and out and can usually hit a pie plate at 200 yards from a bench

Are you talking 6" or 12" pie plates? And open sights or scoped? I can hit a 6" pie plate with open sights at 100 yards and quite possibly a 12" pie plate at 200 yards but my old eyes may not be up to it. If it is scoped ive got some rifles (and me) that are capable of hitting a 6" pie plate at 400+ yards from a rest. The rifles would be more than capable but I'd be pushing my eyesight to do it repeatedly.
I’m afraid I’m getting in the same boat my friend. I need a lot of light to see well. The days of shooting Pennies off the fence rail are long past.
