Which coating is better?

I'm trying to figure out whether to go with Cerakote or nitride for a gun that's going to get a lot of use. Which one actually holds up better?

My understanding is that Nitride actually penetrates the steel of the firearm.
Cerakote is a "Paint" that "Coats" the steel.

I would say that Nitride would be a finish that would hold up the longest..??..Bill.

It takes some effort, but cerakote will ship and scratch. It’s quite durable, but not invincible. Nitride will eventually polish on the edges where it rubs your holster. I find that much more tolerable.

Nitride held up better on my carry gun. My old Cerakote looked sharp at first but wore down fast around the holster edges.

I am thoroughly satisfied with the nitride finish. I have 2 CZ rifles that are nitride treated. Much better than cerakote in my opinion.
