Good scope for my Howa 1500

I'm putting together a Howa 1500 in .308 for hunting and I want to keep the optic simple and light. I'm not looking for long-range capabilities, just something that I can rely on in hunting conditions. What scopes have you had good experiences with in that role?

From my experience, I recommend Vortex. I have a Vortex mounted on my 35 Whelen. I've probably put 400 rounds through that rifle and the scope has always held zero. Also, the glass is super clear.
