Casting - Bullet Lube Recipes

I’ve found the topic of bullet lube can be like asking what motor oil people use or what sports team they like: Theirs is right and everyone else is an idiot. It will be interesting to see how this goes.

I buy all of mine. I’ve never mixed any. I get almost all of mine from Lars at https://www.lsstuff.com/

I mostly use his BAC, which is equal parts beeswax, alox, and carnauba wax. It seems to work in a wide range of velocities. I’ve used it target pistol loads through rifle.

I’ve used his 50-50, which is pretty soft and meant for slow speeds. It’s probably better at that than the BAC, but not worth changing what’s in the lube-sizers for me.

And I use his replacement for Lee Liquid Alox/LLA/Mule Snot called X-Lox. It works great and is a lot cheaper than Lee (a phrase you don’t hear much).

And best of all, his products are cheaper than the big names.

I mostly use straight beeswax. I will harden it a bit with carnauba or even paraffin if I expect to shelve it for a while. Or planning a hunt in hot weather.

I’ve seen guys use lard, Crisco, kitchen grease, axle grease or even straight Vaseline. I’ve always been afraid that would contaminate the powder. Ok, maybe for a black powder patch?
